About Me

Dave Murphy was first elected to represent

Wisconsin's 56th Assembly District in November 2012 and is seeking his fourth term in the legislature. Dave grew up on a dairy farm in the Town of Grand Chute and graduated from Hortonville High School in 1972. He attended the University of Wisconsin- Fox Valley for two years and then enrolled in the Wisconsin School of Real Estate and received his Real Estate Broker's license.

For two decades, Dave was an agri-business owner working closely with dairy farmers. More recently, he and his wife owned several fitness centers named Inches-A-Weigh in the Town of Grand Chute.

Dave and his wife, Lynn, live in Greenville. Dave’s son Pat lives in Winneconne with his wife, Bonnie, and their two children. His daughter Sara and her husband Brad live in Middleton and have one son.

Dave currently serves as the Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities but his legislative priorities do not stop there. If reelected, Dave plans to work to better prepare students for employment in order to stimulate economic growth, make health care more affordable by eliminating unnecessary bureaucracy in our medical system, and get Wisconsin's road construction back on track by prioitization and responsible budgeting.

Thank you for visiting my website and I hope I can count on your vote in November.

Where I Stand
Where I Stand
Healthcare

Dave understands the importance of affordable access to quality health care. In an effort to stabilize the private insurance market, Dave supported Wisconsin's Healthcare Stability Plan which establishes a reinsurance plan to cover high cost claims and reduce uncertainty in the marketplace. To further improve access, Dave voted in favor of a law to create a Community Emergency Medical Service to allow EMTs and paramedics to provide non-emergency treatment outside of hospital settings to assist at-risk populations and reduce hospital readmission.

Education

Dave believes that every family should have exceptional education options. Dave supported an increase of over $600 million in state aid to our schools. This represents the largest investment in K-12 education in state history. Serving as chair of the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities, Dave has extensive knowledge of higher education. This session, Dave voted to increase funding to the UW System by over $34 million and maintain the tuition freeze for resident undergraduate students until 2019. To ensure that Wisconsin's most vulnerable have access to higher education, Dave supported legislation that provides foster youth with the opportunity to attend a UW school tuition free.

Transportation

Wisconsin's transportation infrastructure is the engine that powers our state's economy. Dave is proud to have voted for a budget that includes the lowest level of transportation bonding in 10 years, new revenue streams from hybrid-electric vehicle registration, and an increase of $30 million to our local road and bridge improvement funds. Dave knows that in order to fix our roads, we must raise revenue while reducing our borrowing.
